The late Ivan Symonds was technically
not a bluesman in the tradition of the other artists
pictured on this site. Ivan was a jazzman but he had a
better grasp of the blues than almost any other musician
I've ever met. He was also a truly gifted musician who
was always on the verge of breaking big. To tell the
truth, I don't think he really wanted that big break. As leader of the house trio at the legendary Rockhead's Paradise he was a local legend. Rockhead's was THE jazz bar which doubled as a neighbourhood hangout and mecca for fans of great music. Whenever Ivan was there you knew you were in for a treat. The club was always packed with friends and fans and Ivan had lots of both. |
