Après Scarface, De Palma devait entreprendre Fire, un nouveau projet qui sera avorté.  Le film raconte l'histoire d'un chanteur rock du nom de Jake DeNardo.  Elle débute avec un concert durant lequel Jake fait monter une spectatrice sur scène et simule avec elle l'acte sexuel devant une foule en délire.   Le chanteur est ultimement accusé d'avoir violé la fille et sera condamné à la prison.  Pour y échapper, DeNardo simule sa mort dans un accident d'automobile.   Puis un jour, un journaliste croit avoir aperçu DeNardo au Brésil, et réussit à résoudre le mystère de sa mort mais décidera de ne pas révèler que DeNardo est toujours vivant.

After Scarface, De Palma was suppose to make Fire, a new project which finally won't work.  The film shows the story of  the rock singer Jake DeNardo.  The story begins when, during a concert, DeNardo brings a girl on stage from the audience and simulates a sexual act in front of a delirious crowd.   The singer is then accused of having raped the girl and, despite the lack of evidence, he is sentenced to prison.  DeNardo refuses to let himself be the victim of an injustice, and decides to fake his death in a car accident.  One day, a journalist thinks he sees DeNardo alive in Brasil and puts together the pieces of the mystery, finally deciding not to reveal that DeNardo is still alive.

Les images qui suivent sont tirées du vidéoclip Dancing In The Dark de Bruce Sprinsteen et comme on peut le constater, la finale semble être un hommage postume que De Palma fait à Fire.
