ESCAPE...

Castle Wall

That word was whispered in every Polish, French, Dutch and British quarters in this bleak German P.O.W. camp, so bleak in fact that all means and cleverness were pulled together to flee out of there. Somewhere along the way, their experience inspired books (P.R. Reid's Colditz), movies (The Colditz Story, and Escape from Colditz), and particularly one television series: Colditz, which aired for two seasons in 1972 and 1974 in England.

Among the main cast starred (yep, that's the word!) David McCallum which, in itself, is a main reason to watch (now you guessed that we are sort of partial to him). ;-) Seriously, this award-winning series tells not the typical WWII story. On the contrary, Colditz paints an insightful picture of the misfortunes of war; a picture not only of blacks and whites but of all the various shades of gray in between, in order to give a multi-dimensional look at every life that was changed within Colditz' walls.

Although the series was originally co-produced by British and American television, the show was unable to sell in the United States, which is a shame. Thanks to History Television however, Canadian viewers were recently able to watch this wonderful series. Unfortunately, the channel does not air the series anymore, but it cannot hurt to send nice requests asking the people in charge of the line-up to air this great series once more.

All the information contained within these pages is solely based on our personal insight after religiously watching every episode (over and over). Though we have now seen most episodes from both seasons, some technical difficulties prevent us from finishing this guide. Rest assured that we are still working on solutions and we hope to be able to bring this guide to its completion sometime in the 21st century.

Enough said. Feel free to browse our main characters profiles or the episode guide but be warned: this episode guide is a powerful spoiler in itself!
